The Cape of Good Hope

Where: Oxford

The Hollybush

Where: Oxford
Ales on Tap: Greene King
Food: Standard pub fare
Unique Feature: Great juke box!

Notes: This rockin' pub is a great place to stop in for a game of billiards or a slate of darts.

Where: Oxford
Ales on Tap: Marstons
Food: Standard pub fare
Unique Feature: Hidden away right off the River Thames

Notes: One of my stops on the "Thames Pub Tour." Just off of Osney Bridge, this locals pub offers a cozy atmosphere, complete with a snooker table! Henry is one of my favorite tap-tenders in the Oxfordshire.

PUBlog rating:

The Lamb & Flag

Where: Oxford
Ales on Tap: Lamb & Flag Golden Ales and rotating local brews
Food: Don't bother
Unique Feature: True pub ambiance!

Notes: One of four "quintessential" Oxford pubs. This classic pub has plenty of room to host large groups, and has enough corners to hide away on your own. It is a little known fact that the "Inklings" (JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis' famed literary club) frequented the L&F after a falling out with the Eagle and Child in the late 1940's.

PUBlog rating:

The White Horse

Where: Oxford
Ales on Tap: White Horse plus a selection of seasonal ales
Food: Standard Pub Fare
Unique Feature: One of the oldest pubs in Oxford!

Notes: Low ceilings, exposed wood beams, lots of cozy corners...what else could you want in a pub?

PUBlog rating:

The Trout Inn

Where: Wolvercote
Ales on Tap: Timothy Taylor, Adnams
Food: The finest dining offered in any pub - truly outstanding cuisine
Unique Feature: AMAZING setting where the River Thames meets the Cotswolds. This enchanting pub is a "must see" for any visitor to Oxfordshire. With an upscale, yet warm interior and an incredible patio (which seats well over one hundred) overlooking the rapids at Tadpole Bridge, the Trout is a distination for food, drink and setting!

Notes: Although I wouldn't recommend the Trout as a "pop in for a pint" local pub, it is one of the finest food/drink establishments in the Oxford area. Whether you are visiting Oxford, or having guests coming in for the weekend: you should make the lovely walk up Port Meadow to the Trout!

The Perch

Where: Oxford
Ales on Tap: Revolving (one of the first that I've seen with Jennings Ales!)
Food: "Countryside pub with a French twist" (NOT your standard pub fare)
Unique Feature: On the beautiful walk up past Port Meadow - Extremely charming!

Notes: A lovely pub out in the Oxford countryside with a warm pot-bellied fireplace and a beautiful sprawling garden. Great place to cozy up on a winter's day, or to enjoy the sun on a summer afternoon. Definitely a nice place to take guests, and worth the walk any afternoon you're in Oxford!
